a challenge from Racer #400. Defeat him to unlock the Datsun 240Z

Analyze menu:
During a race, highlight "Return To Garage"
and press Square + Down. Repeat the code to remove
the display. Alternately, pause game play immediately when you start a drive
in quest mode. Scroll all the way down the pause menu to access
an "Analyze" option under "Retire". This allows
you to see the turning rate, accelerator, and brake pressure.
This only works at the very start of the drive and you cannot
turn it off once enabled. Note: This may be dependent on the car
type or parts.

Level 7 engine, level 8 muffler, and all
5 levels of body tune:
In order to unlock these items, you need 1,860 miles
on your odometer. You can typically gain about 500 miles for seven
hours of driving in auto pilot mode. To go to auto pilot mode,
challenge a rival and when the race is over, allow the game to
idle and the CPU will eventually take over. Note: This only works
for the car with the miles.
New nickname:
Select any team sticker for your car and the team will
get a new nickname. For example, defeat one the of the "Another Star" gang.
Afterwards, buy his car, fix it up, and put the "Another
Star" sticker on your car. Your nickname should be changed
to "Over The Top".

Press Triangle as the view zooms in to keep the camera
away from the car. Press Triangle again to resume the zoom.
Hint: Trip meter:
Do not allow the trip meter (located under the odometer)
go much beyond 100 to 150. If your car goes beyond that point,
you will notice a lack of acceleration and top speed. To get this
meter to go back down to 0, pause game play, and select "Return
To Garage". Once in the garage, select "Start Race"
and trip meter will be back down to 0.
Hint: Gaining mileage:
If your mileage is low and you need to gain but do
not want to drive in circles, challenge a rival. After the race
is over it will stay in auto-pilot with the trip meter and odometer
still ticking (eventually leading the way to the level 8 muffler
and level 7 engine).
Hint: Speed King's car: Recommended gear
ratios:
The best way to set the gear ratios on the Speed King's
car (Nissan Skyline) is as follows.
Gear 1: 5.01
Gear 2: 3.29
Gear 3: 2.20
Gear 4: 1.70
Gear 5: 1.23
Gear 6: 0.85
Final Gear: 2.06
Alternately, use the following settings.
Gear 1: 5.01
Gear 2: 3.29
Gear 3: 2.20
Gear 4 1.70
Gear 5 1.10
Gear6: 2.15
Final Gear: 2.15
Steer: +15
Acceleration: +15
Ride Height
Rear: +10
Front: -10
Spring Rate: +10
Rear: 10+
Front: -5
Damper: -12 both rear and front
Turbo Boost: 1.40
Alternately, use the following settings. After using these settings,
your car should be able to break 250 mph providing that you have
at least the level 7 engine and the level 8 or 7 muffler. You
also need to upgrade everything else to its highest setting before
you can hit that speed.
Steer: +8
Acceleration: +15
Brake: +13
Brake Balance: +0
Ride height: -15 on both front and rear
Gear 1: 4.26
Gear 2: 2.58
Gear 3: 2.07
Gear 4: 1.70
Gear 5: 1.27
Gear 6: 0.91
Final Gear: 2.52
Spring Rate Front +10 Rear +11
Damper -12 both front and rear
Turbo Boost 2.00
Use the following settings to enable the Speed King's car to reach
over 260 mph. With these settings and the level 7 engine and muffler
upgrade, your car should now have 1258 HP.
Gear 1: 4.69
Gear 2: 2.86
Gear 3: 2.12
Gear 4: 1.76
Gear 5: 1.32
Gear 6: 0.94
Final Gear: 2.43
Brake Balance: 0
Spring Rate: Front: +4
Rear: +3
Damper Rate: Front: -4
Rear: -5
Ride Height: Front: -11
Rear: -6
Turbo Boost: 2.00
Hint: Defeating Speed King:
To defeat Speed King, use R33 with special tuning:
Steer: +10
Acceleration: +13
Braking: +14
Brake Balance: 0
Ride Height: -14
Gear Ratio: Default except final gear: 3.03
Spring Rate: +10 front and rear
Damper: -12 front and rear
Turbo Boost: 1.40
Also, use the Inner Kanjyo or Outer Kanjyo track because that
car cannot move fast in the narrow street.
Hint: Easy race win:
Have good acceleration and send the other car in to
the back of pedestrian cars. Approach a rival on any mostly straight-away at about 110 mph.
Flash your lights as fast as you can directly behind the rival
as you begin to get closer to them . Without slowing down, turn
out to the side of them at the last moment. If done correctly,
you will be ahead of them, and even though you challenged them,
you are still in front. This can be very helpful with faster rivals,
as it allows you to block them from passing you. Note: Your speed
is key. If you are going too fast, you will pass your rival without
him noticing your flashes. If you are going too slow, you will
still be behind your rival when he accepts your challenge. This
requires some practice. If you are racing a rival and are slightly in the lead. To lose
them, drive past traffic and honk your horn. The traffic will
change lanes and block the other driver. This is a good way to
get the upper hand in your race. However, this only works if you
get very close to the traffic and honk. Also, it only works sometimes
and should not be over used. In the Kanjoy area, you should see a location where there are
two roads blocked. The cars will all stop there so they do not
hit the wall. If you keep going, you will get ahead far enough
that they cannot catch up. It is also a good idea to challenge
them there, so you can get a head start.
Hint: Easy money:
On the course, an easy way to earn more money in races
is to make it longer. For example, tailgating and bumper-gating.
The best place on the map to do this is on the long straight.
Make sure you have a car that gets up and goes though. When you
challenge someone, stay behind them, then get in front of them.
The downside is that most of your battle SP will be gone, however
you will get more money faster. You can race the people that you have already defeated and they
still give you money for winning again.
Hint: Recommended car:
One of the best cars to start out with and to keep
throughout the game is the Type-CE9A (Lancer). This car delivers
performance from the beginning. Do the mileage trip (leave your
car on auto pilot until you get 1,860 miles to get a level 7 engine,
level 8 muffler, and level 5 body tune). The car will easily break
200 mph, even without the last engine.
Glitch: Race through the air:
After defeating a rival, let the game go into autopilot
mode. When in this mode, open the CD tray and watch the screen.
Eventually everything will disappear except the cars, traffic,
and background image. It will appear that the car is racing through
the air.
Hold R1 while selecting a transmission type.
Keep the R1 held until the game completes loading to see
a man hanging from the roof of your car in the first person view.
